Bologna’s Impressive Performance Seals Convincing Win Over As Roma
Bologna delivered a masterclass away performance to secure a 3-1 victory over AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, marking their first Serie A double over the Giallorossi since the 1966/67 season.
The game kicked off with Roma’s Paulo Dybala orchestrating the early chances, but it was Bologna who struck first in the 14th minute through Oussama El Azzouzi’s spectacular overhead kick, assisted by Riccardo Calafiori. The Moroccan’s acrobatic effort found the back of the net off the post, setting the tone for Bologna’s dominance in the first half.
Roma attempted to mount a comeback, with Leandro Paredes and Stephan El Shaarawy coming close to finding the equalizer. However, Bologna extended their lead just before halftime, as Joshua Zirkzee capitalized on a goalmouth scramble to slot the ball past the Roma goalkeeper, giving his team a comfortable two-goal advantage going into the break.
The second half saw Roma pushing for a quick response, with El Shaarawy denied by a goal-line clearance from Stefan Posch. Manager Daniele De Rossi made tactical substitutions, introducing Rick Karsdorp, Sardar Azmoun, and Leonardo Spinazzola to inject fresh energy into the team. Azmoun made an immediate impact by scoring shortly after coming on, reigniting Roma’s hopes of a comeback.
However, Bologna remained composed and resilient, with Alexis Saelemaekers showing his clinical finishing by calmly chipping the ball over the Roma goalkeeper to restore Bologna’s two-goal cushion. Despite a disallowed goal from Santiago Castro, Bologna held firm to secure the crucial victory and strengthen their grip on third place in the Serie A standings.
