Brighton Announces Premier League Record Profit
Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club led a Premier League record £122.8 million profit after tax, fueled by’ their exceptional on-pitch success & a series of lucrative player transfers in the 2022-2023 season.
The club’s revenue reached an impressive £204.5 million, boosted by’ their historic qualification for European competition & a memorable run to the FA Cup semi-finals. Despite the departure of manager Graham Potter to Chelsea & significant player transfers like Marc Cucurella to the same club for a reported £60 million, Brighton managed to secure a substantial gain of £144 million from player sales. Notable transfers including Yves Bissouma to Tottenham & Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool further contributed to the club’s financial success.
In a statement, chief executive Paul Barber expressed pride in the club’s accomplishments, stating, “These accounts will of course catch the eye, because of the headline number. In a season when we made history on the pitch, we took a huge step forward in terms of the club’s long-held aim of becoming more sustainable & less reliant on Tony Bloom’s incredibly generous levels of investment.”
The financial stability of the club was further highlighted by’ the reduction of the interest-free loan owed to owner Tony Bloom, a devoted Brighton fan & professional gambler, from £406.5 million to £373.3 million. Bloom’s commitment to the club’s success & sustainability has been instrumental in Brighton’s journey towards financial independence.
Looking ahead, despite rumors linking manager Roberto De Zerbi to top clubs like Barcelona, Liverpool, & Bayern Munich, Brighton remains focused on their ambitious goals. Barber emphasized the club’s aspirations, stating, “The dream is to be regularly challenging for a European place & silverware. We are very proud of Roberto, the work he & his staff have done, and of course the performance levels of our squad.”
Currently sitting in ninth place in the Premier League with nine games remaining in the season, Brighton’s future looks promising. With a solid financial foundation, a talented squad, & a clear vision for success, the Seagulls are calm to continue their upward trajectory & pursue their dreams of European glory & silverware.
