British Football Chants – Man City, Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Others
British football chants have long been a cherished tradition within football fandom. These spirited and often boisterous songs, sung by passionate supporters, express loyalty, pride, and camaraderie towards their beloved teams.
The emotional atmosphere created by these chants adds an undeniable vibrancy to the stadium, igniting a sense of unity among fans and players alike. With their catchy melodies and cleverly crafted lyrics, British football chants have become an integral part of the sport’s culture, embodying the unwavering dedication and support that defines the essence of British football.
These chants are mostly sung to rile up the players and supporters alike. They can be found in the stands of any major match, with fans from both sides competing to out-chant each other.
SportXparte understands that football chants can range from the simple, like “Come on You Reds”, to the complex, like “We All Follow the Arsenal”.
They often feature local dialects and slang words, as well as references to local figures and past events. In some cases, chants can even become iconic and be referenced in popular culture.
Another interesting side of football chant is that, sometimes, fans can coin words to make a chant and use the same to yell insults at the opposing team. Also, there are moments when fans sing songs about rival clubs even when their teams are not playing each other.
See below a list of some British Football Chants as peculiar to different clubs.
-
You’ll Never Walk Alone – Liverpool
The atmosphere always created by Liverpool fans at Anfield is second to none in England. Any football club to play Liverpool at home would have to deal with the thunderous chants of the crowd differently, and this is understood to have helped Liverpool stage some of the best comebacks in football, SportXparte reports.
History has it that Liverpool’s “You’ll Never Walk Alone” chat was originally written for the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel in 1945. The Merseyside club has since adopted it as their official chant due to the widespread reception from their fan base.
Liverpool’s football chant is considered to be among the best football chants in the United Kingdom.
Liverpool Chant:
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
There’s a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams are tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone

Blue Moon – Manchester City
Manchester City Chant:
Blue moon,
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own.
Blue moon
You knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for.
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper, please adore me
And when I looked, the moon had turned to gold.
Blue moon
Now I’m no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own.

Arsenal Chant – One-nil to the Arsenal
British Football Chant – Arsenal was held in high esteem back in the 70s as they were then the best team in England’s First Division. The Gunners soon, on an Album cover art for a 1979 release by the Village People, featured the Pet Shop Boys’ “Go West.”
Subsequently, Arsenal fans and supporters adopted the lyrics as their chant. Though, the Gunners seem to have a reel of chants but the most the most sung is the One-nil to Arsenal.
Arsenal Chants:
One-nil to Arsenal, x3
One-nil to the Arsenal
WE FOLLOW ARSENAL:
We all follow the Arsenal,
Over land and sea (and Leicester!)
We all follow the Arsenal
Onto victory.
And It’s Arsenal, Arsenal FC
And it’s Arsenal,
Arsenal FC!
We’re by far the greatest team.
The world has ever seen.
And it’s Arsenal,
Arsenal FC!
We’re by far the greatest team.
The world has ever seen.

Manchester United – Glory Glory Man United
Notwithstanding its status as one of England’s most accomplished football clubs, Manchester United’s chant did not originate until a later period.
Preceding the FA Cup Final in 1983, supporters of Man United commenced singing “Glory, Glory, Man United,” with the melody being composed by Frank Renshaw of Herman’s Hermits.
This chant has since become one of the most renowned football chants of all time and is consistently featured during the Red Devils’ home games at Old Trafford.
Manchester United Chant:
Glory, glory Man united, x3
As the Reds go marching on on on!
Just like the busby babes in days gone by,
We’ll keep the red flags flying high,
You are going to see us all from far and wide,
You’re going to hear the masses sing with pride.
United, Man United,
We’re the boys in red on our way to Wembley!
Wembley, Wembley,
We’re the famous Man United, and we’re going to Wembley,
Wembley, Wembley,
We’re the famous Man United, and we’re going to Wembley
In Seventy-Seven, it was Docherty
Atkinson will make it Eighty-Three
And everyone will say know just who we are,
They’ll be singing que sera sera
United, Man United,
We’re the boys in red on our way to Wembley!
Wembley, Wembley,
We’re the famous Man United, and we’re going to Wembley,
Wembley, Wembley,
We’re the famous Man United, and we’re going to Wembley
Glory, glory Man united, x3
As the Reds go marching on on on!
Glory, glory Man united, x3
As the Reds go marching on on on!
Glory, glory Man united, x3
As the Reds go marching on on on!

Blue Is The Colour – Chelsea
Chelsea’s Blue Is The Colour anthem is also considered one of the best British football chants so far. The timeless chant first became famous in 1972 after the club’s players recorded a song at every home game and cup final at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea Chant:
Blue is the colour; football is the game
We’re all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name.
Here at the Bridge, whether rain or fine
We can shine all the time
Home or away, come and see us play
You’re welcome any day
Blue is the colour; football is the game
We’re all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name
Come to the Shed, and we’ll welcome you
Wear your blue and see us through
Sing loud and clear until the game is done
Sing Chelsea, everyone,
Blue is the colour; football is the game
We’re all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name. x2

Bayern Munich – Stern Des Südens Chant
German football giants, Bayern Munich have always reminded their opponents of their numerous trophies by shouting aloud the “Stern Des Südens “, written by German artist, Willy Astor.
Bayern Munich prides itself on 31 league championships and has dominated the German football league.
Bayern Munich’s Stern Des Südens – means Southern Star in English:
Zueinander stehen
FC Bayern, deutscher Meister
Zueinander stehen
FC Bayern, deutscher Meister
Ja, so heißt er, mein Verein
Ja, so war es und so ist es
Und so wird es immer sein
FC Bayern, deutscher Meister
Ja, so heißt er, mein Verein
Ja, so war es und so ist es
Und so wird es immer sein

Tot el camp
És un clam
Som la gent blaugrana
Tant se val d’on venim
Si del sud o del nord
Ara estem d’acord estem d’acord
Una bandera ens agermana
Blaugrana al vent
Un crit valent
Tenim un nom que el sap tothom
Barça, Barça, Barça!
Jugadors
Seguidors
Tots units fem força
Són molts anys plens d’afanys
Són molts gols que hem cridat.
I s’ha demostrat s’ha demostrat
Que mai ningú no ens podrà tòrcer.
Blaugrana al vent
Un crit valent
Tenim un nom que el sap tothom
Barça, Barça, Barça!
