Bruno Fernandes Matches Unwanted Red Card Record Against Wolves

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted he was “frustrated” to see Bruno Fernandes shown a red card in Thursday’s 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The United captain received his second yellow card just two minutes into the second half, shifting the momentum of the match. Goals from Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan led to yet another heavy defeat for the Red Devils.

This was Fernandes’ third red card of the season, following dismissals against Tottenham Hotspur and Porto, the latter of which was overturned on appeal.

He is the first United player to receive as many red cards in a single season since Nemanja Vidic in 2008/09.

While Amorim admitted his anger towards Fernandes’ early departure from the game, he refused to be too critical of the midfielder for what he felt was simply a mistake.

“I will always be frustrated with a red card, but it can happen,” Amorim told the media.

“He wanted to go for the ball. It’s not like he wanted to stop a play with a yellow – he wants to go to the ball. The other guy touched the ball first, and there was a contact. That thing is tough on him, also.”
