Burnley Reaches Agreement To Sign Kyle Walker From Manchester City
Burnley is nearing the permanent transfer of right-back Kyle Walker from Manchester City.
The 35-year-old England international is currently undergoing medical examinations ahead of finalizing the move, which the newly promoted Premier League club will consider a major signing.
If all goes to plan, he will put pen to paper on a proposed two-year contract, adding quality, experience, and leadership to head coach Scott Parker’s side. Walker played alongside Parker during the latter’s two seasons at Tottenham Hotspur between 2011 and 2013.
The transfer could be worth up to £5 million ($6.8 million) to City if certain bonuses are met.
As one of their longest-serving players and last season’s captain before a loan move to AC Milan, along with being one of the club’s highest earners, this deal could also potentially save the ten-time English champions around £10 million. Walker’s contract at City is set to expire next year.
Although he made 16 appearances during his loan at AC Milan, the Italian club chose not to exercise its option to sign him permanently.
The England international defender has won 17 trophies across eight years at City, including six Premier League titles and the 2022-23 Champions League.
Walker joined Milan ahead of their two-legged Champions League knockout play-off tie against Feyenoord, in which they were defeated 2-1 on aggregate. Milan finished eighth in Serie A and was beaten by Bologna in the Coppa Italia final.
The England international has been part of every squad selected by Thomas Tuchel since he took charge of England. He played the full 90 minutes in the team’s 3-1 loss to Senegal, earning his 96th cap.
Since joining from Tottenham in 2017, he has made 319 appearances for City.
Walker is set to be Burnley’s fourth signing in what has already been a busy summer for the newly promoted club.
Their summer transfer window has seen the arrival of former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe on a free transfer, left-back Quilindschy Hartman from Feyenoord, and goalkeeper Max Weiss from German club Karlsruher.
Additionally, the club has made permanent the loan deals of Bashir Humphreys, Marcus Edwards, and Zian Flemming.
