Champions League: Bayern’s Luis Díaz Receives Three-Match Ban For Tackle On Hakimi
Bayern Munich’s Luis Díaz has been handed a three-match suspension for serious rough play following his red card in the 2-1 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain.
The decision was announced on Friday by UEFA. Díaz had scored both goals in Paris before being dismissed for a violent tackle on Achraf Hakimi just before halftime.
PSG confirmed a day later that Hakimi had severely sprained his left ankle, and the Moroccan full-back has not played for the Ligue 1 club since.
Hakimi claimed the African Footballer of the Year award on Wednesday, limping onto the stage and moving about on a scooter. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany had expected Diaz to miss only the trip to Arsenal on Wednesday.
However, the Colombian winger will also miss home fixtures against Sporting on December 9 and Union Saint-Gilloise on January 21.
”My information is that he’s suspended for one game… I would be disappointed if my information is not correct,” Kompany told reporters earlier on Friday.
Bayern Munich leads the Champions League standings with 12 points from four matches, one of three teams still unbeaten, alongside their upcoming opponents Arsenal and Inter Milan.
