Cole Palmer Named PFA Young Player Of The Year For 2023/24 Season
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has been named the PFA Young Player of the Year for the 2023/24 season.
The 22-year-old, who was also nominated for the senior award, enjoyed a dazzling debut campaign with Chelsea, racking up 22 goals and 11 assists in 34 Premier League appearances.
Not initially signed as a goalscorer, Palmer became Chelsea’s main source for finding the back of the net as other forwards faltered.
He scored two Premier League hat-tricks in three matches with the first coming against his former club’s bitter rivals, Manchester United.
The forward’s impressive performances earned him a spot on England’s Euro 2024 squad, and he once again showcased his talent by scoring a stunning long-range goal in the final against Spain, although the Three Lions ultimately fell short in the match.
Palmer can add the gong to his list of achievements which includes winning the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award back in May.
Palmer comes out on top of a shortlist that also included Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Michael Olise (Crystal Palace, now Bayern Munich), Joao Pedro (Brighton and Hove Albion), and last year’s winner, Bukayo Saka (Arsenal).
Palmer is the first Chelsea player to win the award since Eden Hazard, who received it in the 2013/14 season. The only other from Chelsea to have won this accolade is Scott Parker, who was honored in the 2003/04 season after joining Charlton Athletic in January.
