Cole Palmer Signs New Nine years Contract With Chelsea
Chelsea have agreed on a lucrative new contract with star midfielder Cole Palmer, reports have revealed.
After transferring from Manchester City for £40 million last summer, Palmer was on a relatively low salary.
However, following an impressive debut season with 25 goals and 15 assists, he was soon identified as deserving of a pay rise.
It was revealed earlier this summer that Chelsea was planning to increase Palmer’s salary as part of a vision that would see the 22-year-old remain a key part of the furniture at Stamford Bridge for the next decade, and Palmer’s contract extension has now been finalized.
Palmer has agreed to extend his first contract by a further two years and is now committed to Chelsea until the summer of 2033.
Most significantly, The Athletic reports that the midfielder has seen his salary increased as a reward for his immediate emergence as a crucial player for the club.
The significance of Palmer to Chelsea in the upcoming season has been emphasized by new manager Enzo Maresca.
During the summer, Maresca announced that the England international would serve as the team’s primary penalty taker following yet another disagreement during a pre-season match.
“When he returns with us, for sure Cole is the taker,” Maresca revealed after the 3-0 win over Club America.
Palmer converted nine penalties last season and, scoring in a friendly for England over the summer, he remains perfect from the spot in his senior career.
The only Chelsea legend to have scored more penalties in a single season is Frank Lampard, who scored ten during the 2009/10 campaign.
