Copa America: Vinicius Jr Shines As Brazil Thrash Paraguay
Brazil display their attacking skills against a resilient Paraguay side at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, securing a dominant 4-1 victory.
The game kicked off with Brazil displaying their offensive intent, as Joao Gomes and Lucas Paqueta tested the Paraguayan defense early on.
The deadlock was broken in the 31st minute when an exquisite backheeled pass from Paqueta allowed Vinicius Junior to calmly slot the ball past the Paraguayan goalkeeper, Rodrigo Morínigo.
Brazil continued to press forward, and their efforts were rewarded with two quick goals in a decisive seven-minute spell towards the end of the first half.
First, moments after Bruno Guimaraes’ thunderous effort had cannoned back off the crossbar, Savio found himself positioned in the right place at the right time to net his first-ever goal for Brazil.
Before Vinicius Junior added his second of the night, taking advantage of defensive lapses on Paraguay’s part.
Despite Paraguay pulling one back with a spectacular strike from Omar Alderete early in the second half, their hopes were dashed as Paqueta converted a penalty, following a handball by Mathías Villasanti.
The situation worsened for Paraguay as Andres Cubas received a straight red card in the 81st minute, reducing them to ten men for the remainder of the game.
With the comprehensive victory, Brazil now sits just two points behind group leaders Colombia. The upcoming match between Brazil and Colombia promises to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams vying for the top spot in Group D and a place in the quarter-finals.
On the other hand, Paraguay’s fate has been sealed prematurely, as they will play their final match against Costa Rica with only pride at stake.
The combination of Colombia’s victory over Costa Rica and Paraguay’s defeat to Brazil has brought an end to their Copa América journey.
