Coroner Confirms Suicide In Death Of Ex-Liverpool Women’s Manager Matt Beard
Former Liverpool and Chelsea women’s manager Matt Beard died by suicide, a coroner’s court in Ruthin, North Wales confirmed on Monday.
The hearing was adjourned, with a full inquest scheduled for a later date, according to the BBC.
Beard, who was 47, passed away in the hospital on September 20 after paramedics were called to his home. A minute’s silence was observed across all Women’s Super League matches on September 21 in his memory.
He enjoyed a distinguished career in women’s football, leading Liverpool to back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014 before returning to the club in 2021 to guide them back into the top flight.
Earlier in his career, Beard managed Millwall and Chelsea, while his final coaching role came with Burnley in a short stint between June and August this year.
