Cote d’Ivoire Confirmed As Host For WAFU Women’s Championship

Cote d’Ivoire has been officially selected as the host country for the upcoming West Africa Zone (WAFU-B) Women’s Championship.

Sportxparte reports that this tournament will also serve as the qualifying event for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The qualifying matches are scheduled to take place from August 10th to 23rd, 2024. Teams from Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Niger Republic, Nigeria, and Togo will compete for the sole ticket from the Zone.

Edo Queens will be representing Nigeria in this prestigious competition.

Recently, Moses Aduku’s team clinched the Nigeria Women’s Football League title for the first time.

In the previous edition, Ghanaian club Ampem Darkoa secured the ticket from the zone by defeating Delta Queens in the final.

It is worth noting that after a successful hosting of the maiden edition, Cote d’Ivoire was chosen as the host country for the 2019 edition of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Women’s Cup, which was held in May of the same year.

The west African region’s football body took the decision after the nation successfully staged the maiden edition in 2018.

Eight countries participated in the regional showpiece, with Senegal, Mali, and Guinea joined as guests from Zone A.
