Danish Coach Riemer Warns Eriksen’s Club Future Poses Big Problem For National Team
Denmark national team coach, Brian Riemer says it has become a major issue for Denmark that Christian Eriksen has not yet secured a new club.
Eriksen’s contract with Manchester United expired on June 30, and he has been without a team since then. He has been linked with several clubs, but nothing has been finalised.
On Monday, Brian Riemer selects the Danish national team squad for the matches against Scotland and Greece, and he won’t reveal whether the squad will include Eriksen.
It’s far from an ideal situation that the midfield maestro is still looking for a new club, admits Riemer, who is working hard to finalize preparations for the World Cup qualifiers in September.
”Of course, it is a big problem for Christian and us that a player with over 140 international caps who has done a fantastic job for this nation for many years suddenly finds himself in this difficult situation. It will also be a problem for us. It would be completely crazy of me to say otherwise.”
”Christian has not been able to find the right place yet, and that means that since we parted ways in June, he has not trained at a club and he has not played any matches. If I said it was not a challenge, it would all be completely irrelevant”, Riemer tells TV 2 Sport.
The Danish national team will gather in Helsingør on 1 September, then play Scotland at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen four days later.
On 8 September, Denmark will take on Greece away.
