Erik ten Hag Reportedly Turns Down Ajax Return To Pursue Other Opportunities

‎Dutch media report that Erik ten Hag has rejected a move to his former club Ajax, citing his preference for ‘other plans.’

‎Ajax had to find a new manager after Francesco Farioli left last Monday due to “disagreements” with the club’s executive board. Farioli’s departure came after just one season in charge.

‎The 36-time Dutch champions quickly moved on and created a shortlist consisting of Go Ahead Eagles manager Paul Simonis and former boss Erik ten Hag, who left Ajax in 2022 to join Manchester United.

‎Ajax technical director, Alex Kroes, confirmed on Monday that he contacted Erik ten Hag after Sunday’s 2-0 win over FC Twente.

‎He did not reveal whether Ten Hag was interested in returning to Ajax.

‎During his previous tenure, ten Hag won three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Beker trophies, the Johan Cruijff Schaal, and reached the semi-finals of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League.

‎However, Dutch media outlet Voetbal International reported on Thursday that Ajax isn’t counting on Ten Hag anymore as the manager “chooses to pursue other plans.”

‎Ten Hag hasn’t had a job since he departed from Manchester United in November but reportedly has interest from Bayer Leverkusen.
