Ex-Man United Player, Jesse Lingard May Join MLS Club Soon – Reports
English professional football player, Jesse Lingard may join Major League Soccer (MLS) side soon.
Speculations in some quarters claimed that Lingard’s new agency contacted former Manchester United player, Phil Neville, who now manages the Portland Timbers, to discuss the 31-year-old player’s potential deal last weekend.
Sportxparte reports that Lingard has been without a club after his playing time ended at Nottingham Forest without an extension.
The player was said to have recently trained with West Ham and Al-Ettifaq but has struggled to reach a contract agreement with the clubs.
Despite showing promise earlier in his career, Lingard’s fortunes have taken a downturn.
However, he has been working hard in the gym and hopes that his new management can attract interested clubs. Portland is said to be one of the MLS teams keeping an eye on Lingard.
Lingard recently parted ways with his previous agent due to their inability to secure a deal for him. Despite previous interest from overseas, Lingard has been a free agent for six months and is frustrated with the lack of concrete contract offers.
He is determined to make a comeback after not playing a competitive match since April. During his time at Nottingham Forest, Lingard made 20 appearances and scored two goals.
Prior to that, he had a successful loan spell at West Ham in 2021, making 16 appearances and scoring nine goals.
The 31-year-old is eager to finalize a transfer to a Major League Soccer team as soon as possible, with the new season for Neville’s club starting on February 25 against the Colorado Rapids. – Credit [Caught-Offside]
