Fenerbahce Sacks Jose Mourinho After Champions League Qualification Failure
Fenerbahçe has sacked legendary coach José Mourinho after failing to reach the Champions League group stage.
Mourinho joined the Turkish giants just over a year ago in June 2024 and guided them to a second-place finish in the Super Lig in his sole full season.
The setback came when they were eliminated by Benfica in the Champions League play-offs at the start of this campaign.
That would ultimately be the final nail in the coffin as Fenerbahce confirmed he had been relieved of his duties on Friday.
Despite not delivering a disastrous 2024/25 season, Fenerbahçe trailed far behind champions Galatasaray in the title race.
Mourinho faced criticism for failing to establish a clear vision or identifiable style of play.
The failure to reach the Champions League after failing to score in both legs against Benfica would have been a major concern for the club’s hierarchy.
