Former Manchester United Forward Joins AEK Athens
AEK Athens has confirmed the arrival of former Manchester United, AS Monaco, and Olympique Lyonnais forward Anthony Martial.
Since leaving Manchester United, with whom he spent nine years, racking up 317 appearances (90 goals, 47 assists), Martial has been looking for a new club.
Brazilian side Flamengo was mentioned as an interested party, along with Lille OSC; although Les Dogues’ president Olivier Létang was quick to shut down the link to the former Lyon and Monaco forward.
The closing of the transfer window does not present an issue for the France international.
However, with the deadline for submitting squad lists for the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League now passed, chances to join clubs participating in those tournaments have become limited.
AEK Athens have now confirmed the signing of the former France international. Whilst the Greek side has not confirmed the length of his contract, Foot Mercato has reported that he has signed a three-year deal.
AEK, who also signed former Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla midfielder Erik Lamela in the summer, are top of Super League Greece with 10 points from four matches ahead of visiting Kallithea on Sunday.
