Fresh Update Emerge On 2024 WAFCON, 2025 AFCON Tournaments
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive team is expected to make key announcements this Friday after its virtual meeting that day.
Sportxparte understands that CAF leadership will meet tomorrow, and the primary focus of the discussion will be the scheduling of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)
Recall that Morocco has been selected to host both events.
There have been speculations that the dates for the two tournaments have been advanced in light of the 2024 Olympic Games and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The session will be led by CAF’s president, Patrice Motsepe.
“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Executive Committee (“EXCO”) will hold a virtual meeting on Friday, 21 June 202,” reads a statement on CAF’s official website.
“The EXCO, to be chaired by CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, will deliberate on a number of matters.”
Super Falcons Star, Toni Payne Departs Sevilla
In other news, the Spanish Femino football club, Sevilla, has cut their relationship with their Nigerian star player, Toni Payne.
The Super Falcons player is reportedly moving on from Rojiblancos after a six-year stint.
Payne joined Sevilla from the Dutch team, Ajax, in 2018.
Payne, who is 29, scored 30 goals and had 20 assists in 181 games for Sevilla in various competitions.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Nigerian parents in the United States, Payne played for the USA at the youth level before changing her nationality to Nigeria.
She has played for Nigeria in 14 matches, making her a part of the nine-time African champions.
