Guardiola Fires Back At Mourinho As Managerial Feud Escalates
The feud between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho continues, with the Manchester City manager now responding to the Portuguese coach’s claim that he has won three titles in England, but fairly and cleanly.
It’s important to note that this exchange between Guardiola and Mourinho started last Sunday.
During Manchester City’s loss to Liverpool at Anfield, the Spanish coach flashed six fingers towards the Reds supporters, reminding them of the Premier League titles he has secured in eight years in England.
Jose Mourinho, who secured three English championships with Chelsea, was recalled for having made a similar gesture in the past. On Friday, he aimed at Guardiola, referencing the 115 alleged financial offenses committed by Manchester City, which could potentially result in the club’s relegation.
“What I said was just a joke. José Mourinho is another in the long list of people who want us, I don’t know, in League One or the Conference League. I’ll answer him the same way: we’re innocent until proven guilty. So let’s see what happens, but what I said was just a joke,” said Pep Guardiola.
“Both of us, him with Chelsea and me with Manchester City, can sit round the table with Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger for the many titles we’ve won. If I offended Mourinho, I apologize, but I was joking. He has three, I have six, that’s a fact, but I didn’t want to hurt him.
“I’ve said it several times, let’s wait for the judgment. In a democracy, we’re all innocent until proven guilty, right?” added the Spanish coach.
