That was the day veteran midfielder James Milner of Brighton & Hove Albion officially became the most-capped player in Premier League history, surpassing long-time leader Gareth Barry.
At 40 years old, Milner played every minute in Brighton’s 2-0 win over Brentford, securing his 654th Premier League appearance. It’s a record built over 24 years, stretching all the way back to his teenage debut for Leeds United in November 2002.
And with Milner still playing regularly, barring any major injury, that record is set to grow.
