FC Barcelona striker, Robert Lewandowski, has been ruled out of Poland’s first EURO 2024 match against the Netherlands following a torn biceps femoris muscle.

The Polish FA announced on Tuesday that it is working things out in every possible way to ensure that the 35-year-old striker can participate in the second match and beyond.

Sportxparte reports that Poland is bid to face the Netherlands on Sunday, 16th June 2024.

Poland, Netherlands, Austria and France all belong to Group D in the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament.

Poland came on board as the underdog. Their qualification campaign for the Euro 2024 was far from smooth.

They only secured their spot through a dramatic penalty shootout victory in the playoffs, after finishing a disappointing third in their qualifying group

This has led some to believe they might underperform again.

Analysts suggest Poland’s style might struggle against strong opponents. Their reliance on a solid defence might not be enough against faster teams.

Poland has a core group of experienced players who reached the Euro 2016 quarterfinals. This experience could prove valuable in a tournament setting.

Robert Lewandowski remains a world-class goal scorer. Even if Poland struggles to control possession, his finishing ability can always steal them a win.

Qualifying through the playoffs might have taken the pressure off for Poland. Realistically, advancing from the group stage might be a success for Poland.

Their performance will likely hinge on key matches and Lewandowski’s individual brilliance. An upset or two isn’t out of the question, but reaching the knockout stages would be considered an achievement for the Polish team.
