Kieran McKenna Signs New 4-years Deal With Ipswich Town

Ipswich manager, Kieran McKenna, signed a four-year contract extension on Thursday, following speculation that he was being considered for head coaching positions at more high-profile Premier League clubs.

Kieran McKenna guided Ipswich to consecutive promotions from England’s third tier to the top division. They lost only six league matches and ended the season with 96 points, having scored a division-best 92 goals.

His outstanding achievements prompted speculation that he could be a contender for the available positions at both Chelsea and Brighton.

Following his previous coaching role at Old Trafford, Manchester United were also said to be interested in McKenna. However, he has put an end to the speculation about his future by committing to a contract that extends until 2028.

“We have enjoyed incredible success together over the last two seasons and I’m excited to have the opportunity and responsibility of leading this fantastic club into its first season in the Premier League in 22 years,” McKenna said in the club’s announcement.

“I am so happy to have committed my future to taking the next step with Ipswich Town and am excited for what’s ahead as we continue this journey together.”

In addition, assistant manager Martyn Pert, first-team coaches Charlie Turnbull and Lee Grant, as well as head of goalkeeping Rene Gilmartin, have all extended their contracts with the club.

“We are delighted Kieran has further committed his future to the club,” said Ipswich chief executive Mark Ashton. “Success brings its challenges and there has been considerable speculation in recent weeks, but Kieran and I have continued to communicate throughout, often several times a day, as we plan for the club’s first Premier League season in a generation.”

Ashton added, “For Kieran to have signed a new contract is a significant boost, heading into such an important campaign, as we continue the hard work in preparation for the coming season.”

McKenna assumed the managerial position at Ipswich in 2021, having previously served on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff at United.
