Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah Climbs To Fourth On Premier League All-Time Scorers List With Burnley Winner
Mohamed Salah further cemented his status as one of English football’s greatest imports by rising to fourth on the Premier League all-time goalscorers list.
The 33-year-old scored a dramatic last-gasp winner from the penalty spot for Liverpool in a 1-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.
Salah was required to take the decisive kick after Hannibal Mejbri’s block redirected Jeremie Frimpong’s cross with his arm. He slotted the penalty with total confidence and power to secure the win.
It means Arne Slot’s men continue to top the Premier League table and look set to launch a serious defence of their crown. But for Salah, there was another reason to celebrate beyond the three points.
Salah, who signed a fresh two-year contract to remain with the Anfield club in May, has surpassed Manchester United legend Andy Cole on 188 goals and could realistically overtake Wayne Rooney in third place.
The retired Red Devils forward is only 20 goals ahead with 208, while Harry Kane sits five goals clear at 213. The Premier League’s all-time top scorer, Alan Shearer, may remain out of reach for Salah, as he would need 72 more goals to match Shearer’s tally.
But given his proclivity to find the net, nothing can be ruled out especially if Salah remains on Merseyside beyond his contract length of June 2027.
Salah is already regarded as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats, having joined from AS Roma in 2017 for €42 million. That investment has paid off, as Salah has moved past his difficult Chelsea spell and begun to eclipse prolific scorers such as Thierry Henry, Sergio Agüero, and fellow Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler.
He sits on a path toward joining the league’s top four.
The Egyptian forward also holds Liverpool’s Premier League record as the club’s all-time top scorer in the competition.
He has logged the most goals and assists in a single 38-game Premier League season, the longest streak of home goals for Liverpool, and the most Premier League goals against Manchester United by any player.
Even with the arrival of big-money signings Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak to bolster Liverpool’s attack, Salah continues to carve out a reputation as a decisive match-winner.
