Maguire Receives Suspended Prison Term In Greek Court
Harry Maguire has received a 15-month suspended prison sentence from a Greek court for his involvement in a 2020 incident in Mykonos, according to Sky Sports.
The Manchester United defender was originally arrested after a late-night brawl during which two police officers were allegedly assaulted.
He was subsequently found guilty of repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, and violence against public employees.
The sentence remains suspended, meaning he will not serve jail time unless he commits another offence within the suspension period.
Maguire, who was detained for two days following the incident and denied any wrongdoing, was handed a suspended prison sentence of 21 months and 10 days but was granted a full retrial after appealing against Greek court convictions on multiple charges.
In accordance with the Greek judicial process, the filing nullified Maguire’s conviction before a full retrial in a more senior court. His retrial was postponed many times.
Harry Maguire was accused of non-serious assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery, and the 32-year-old was found guilty on all charges but will not serve jail time. His legal team plans to appeal the verdict, according to Sky Sports.
Maguire’s brother, Joe Maguire, and friend, Christopher Sharman, were also convicted of offences linked to the incident and received suspended sentences in 2020.
Both men maintain their innocence and deny any wrongdoing.
