Manchester City Expected To Complete Lucas Paqueta’s Transfer This Summer

According to reports from The Athletic, Manchester City maintained contact with West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta’s representatives after a failed transfer attempt last summer. The Premier League champions are reportedly considering making a move for the Brazilian midfielder this summer, pending the outcome of a betting investigation involving Paqueta.

Last summer, Man City had planned an £80m move for the 26-year-old midfielder, only for the deal to collapse following the FA’s betting investigation into Paqueta. As the results of the investigation are expected to be made public soon, the possibility of Paqueta joining Man City depends on whether he is cleared of any wrongdoing. If the Brazilian is given the green light, he could potentially be seen as a long-term replacement for the aging Kevin De Bruyne at City.

De Bruyne, who is 33 this year, has a contract expiring in 2025, and with interest from Saudi Arabia, there is a possibility that Man City might consider selling him to fund a move for Paqueta. The Brazilian has been a standout performer for West Ham this season, featuring in 37 matches and contributing with eight goals and seven assists. His versatility as a central midfielder and in the number 10 role makes him an attractive prospect for Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, several factors need to align for this potential transfer to materialize. The betting investigation surrounding Paqueta must be resolved, and both clubs, as well as the player himself, need to agree for the move to go through. While Paqueta may be eager to play at the highest level, the cooperation of West Ham’s management and the player’s representatives will be crucial in finalizing any deal.
