Manchester City asserted their authority in the Premier League with a resounding 5-1 victory over Luton Town at the Etihad Stadium.

The win extended City’s undefeated league record to an impressive 17 games, with 13 wins and 4 draws under their belt.

The match kicked off with a quick blow to Luton Town’s hopes as Erling Haaland found the back of the net within the first two minutes, courtesy of an acrobatic strike that left Luton’s Daiki Hashioka helpless as the ball ended up in his net. From that moment on, City maintained control, dictating play and posing constant threats to the visitors.

Despite City’s dominance, Luton managed to hold on and limit the damage in the first half, with City only managing to secure a one-goal advantage going into the break. The pattern continued in the second half, with City persistently probing for more goals.

The breakthrough came in the second half when Mateo Kovacic unleashed a stunning half-volley to double City’s lead. Although Luton showed resilience in defense, they eventually succumbed to City’s relentless pressure as Haaland converted a penalty and Ross Barkley then slotted in a consolation for the away side, before Doku and Gvardiol added further goals to seal the comprehensive victory.

The win propels Manchester City to the top of the Premier League table, edging ahead of title contenders Arsenal and Liverpool by two points. With an unbeaten record at the Etihad Stadium since November 2022, City’s form and consistency make them formidable contenders for the league title this season.
