Manchester United Closing In On Deal For Antwerp Goalkeeper Senne Lammens

‎Manchester United are closing a deal to sign Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Senne Lammens for about €20m (£17m), with the 23-year-old set to compete with André Onana.

‎Onana’s place at United has been under scrutiny after a string of unconvincing displays since his arrival from Inter for £44.4m in July 2023. He was left out of the squad for the opening-day loss to Arsenal last weekend.

‎His replacement, Altay Bayindir, then made an error that directly led to Riccardo Calafiori’s winning goal.

‎Onana intends to stay at United beyond the current transfer window after learning that the club has rejected approaches from other clubs for his services.

‎However, he now faces renewed pressure on his starting position from Lammens.

‎The 6ft 3in Belgium Under-21 international made his senior debut for Club Brugge in July 2021.

‎He moved to Antwerp two years later and made his first appearance in a 2-0 Champions League defeat to Porto that November.

‎Reports in Belgium claim United have agreed terms with him, but it is understood no deal is finalised yet.

‎Onana is expected to miss part of the season as he joins Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

‎The tournament begins for them with a Christmas Eve clash against Gabon.
