Manchester United Defender Sidelined For Weeks After Injury At Villa
Manchester United center-back Harry Maguire has confirmed he will miss “a few weeks” after picking up a muscle injury in the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.
Maguire was substituted shortly before half-time in the Premier League match and was replaced by summer signing Matthijs de Ligt.
Following the final whistle, manager Erik ten Hag admitted he was uncertain about the severity of the England international’s injury.
In a post on social media, Maguire shed some more light on his injury.
“Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sideline for me but I’ll come back stronger,” he wrote.
This season, Maguire has fallen out of the starting lineup at United, with Ten Hag favoring De Ligt and Argentina international Lisandro Martinez.
However, he was brought back into the starting XI against Villa to stabilize a defense that had allowed three goals in each of its last two matches.
Impressing alongside another resurgent star, 36-year-old Jonny Evans, Maguire’s return was cut short by injury, which also robbed him of the chance to force his way into the England setup.
Maguire was first left out of Lee Carsley’s squad for the October international break but was tipped to return after Villa defender Ezri Konsa was forced to withdraw through injury.
Carsley has expressed his support for Maguire, who was once a key player under Gareth Southgate, emphasizing that his international career is still very much intact despite his recent exclusion from the squad.
The other injured players include Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Leny Yoro, Alejandro Garnacho, Noussair Mazraoui, and Kobbie Mainoo.
United currently sits 14th in the standings with eight points after seven matches, marking the club’s worst start to a season in Premier League history.
