The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted claims that it has begun discussions with Herve Renard regarding the open position for the Super Eagles coaching role.

News surfaced earlier in the week suggesting that the NFF had initiated negotiations with the Frenchman to become the head coach of the Super Eagles following the resignation of former coach, Finidi George.

However, a senior official from the football body has since refuted this statement.

“This statement is false. We have not reached out to Renard or his team,” the official stated to BBC Africa.

Renard is set to step down from his position as the head coach of the French women’s national team following the 2024 Olympic Games.

He is keen to return to Africa, where he has had significant success.

Renard has led Zambia to victory in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and has also won with Cote d’Ivoire in 2015.

Following Finidi George’s departure as the Super Eagles coach, the NFF is in search of a new head coach for the team.

A replacement coach is anticipated to be appointed before the Super Eagles start their qualifying matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in September.
