Borussia Dortmund veteran Marco Reus expressed his surprise at his team’s achievement in reaching the Champions League final at Wembley, stating that “nobody expected us to make it.” This came after their victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Dortmund will revisit the location of the 2013 Champions League final, where the team, then coached by Jurgen Klopp, suffered a 2-1 defeat to German counterparts Bayern Munich.

The veteran player, who revealed on Friday his decision to leave his childhood club after the season, described the sensation of reaching the pinnacle event of European football as “indescribable.”

“Now we better win it, otherwise that would suck,” said Reus.

Reus re-joined Dortmund in 2012 having come through the club’s junior system before moving first to Rot-Weiss Ahlen aged 15 then to Borussia Monchengladbach.

A potential rematch with Bayern is still a possibility, as Thomas Tuchel’s team faces Real Madrid in the other semi-final on Wednesday. Bayern and Real Madrid drew 2-2 in the first leg.

Dortmund had strokes of luck in both semi-final matches, as PSG struck the woodwork six times, four of which occurred on Tuesday.
