Victor Osimhen, the striker for the Super Eagles, was unable to journey with his teammates to Bouake on Monday due to experiencing abdominal discomfort.

SportXparte reports that Nigeria will be facing South Africa on Wednesday in the Semi-final stage of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The most anticipated match will take place in Cote d’Ivoire, and the Super Eagles hope to qualify for the final in a bid to win home their fourth AFCON title.

However, as the medical staff in Abidjan work diligently to ensure Osimhen’s fitness, he has been left behind and should things go well, the player is expected to join his teammates on Tuesday for the journey.

Nevertheless, the remainder of the team successfully arrived in Bouake at approximately 10 pm, having travelled via Air Cote d’Ivoire, SportXparte reports.

“Members of the team travelled from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10 pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not, however, make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort.

“Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5 pm,” The Super Eagles confirmed in an official post on X.
