Pep Guardiola Admits Manchester City Still Faces Significant Challenges In The Title Race.
Manchester City maintained the heat on front-runners Arsenal by securing a 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. However, despite the win, manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged that there is still a significant challenge ahead as they strive for a fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland on either side of half-time at the City Ground propelled Guardiola’s side to 79 points from 34 matches. Meanwhile, Arsenal sits at the top with 80 points from 35 games.
When questioned about Manchester City’s prospects of securing the Premier League title, Guardiola told reporters: “It’s far away. Ask me this question when we are top of the league and have one game left. But with four games left, it’s like (we have to) climb a big mountain. It’s in our hands… We draw a game we are not going to win the Premier League.”
Although Arsenal’s title aspirations diminish in the final weeks of the previous season, Mikel Arteta’s team is proving resilient this year. They demonstrated determination by clinching a hard-fought 3-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Guardiola did not anticipate another stumble from Arsenal again. “We prefer (if) they lose but we cannot control what they do. They make a good result and yeah, it’s four games left,” Guardiola said. “I think (they’re) not going to lose any points and we know exactly what we have to do.”
Next, City will host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league on Saturday.
