Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has joined Olympique de Marseille on loan with an option to buy, both clubs said on Monday.

Although the financial details were not made public by either club, British media outlets have reported that is set to pay approximately £16 million for the central midfielder, who has one year remaining on his contract with Spurs, should they choose to make the transfer permanent.

The Danish international has made 184 appearances and scored 10 goals for the North London club. He joined Spurs in 2020 after four years at Southampton, having previously played for Bayern Munich.

Last season, Hojbjerg found himself lower in the hierarchy at Spurs, as Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma, and Rodrigo Bentancur were preferred in midfield.

Marseille, who appointed former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi as head coach last month, begin their Ligue 1 campaign at Brest on August 18th. They have also signed former Manchester United forward, Mason Greenwood.

The Denmark international started his professional career with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, gaining experience with loans to Augsburg and Schalke.

He has 81 caps for his country, scoring 10 goals, and was part of the squad that lost to Germany in the round of 16 at Euro 2024.
