Norwegian professional football manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, may soon return to the English Premier League as Leicester City’s new manager.

Reports are that the Foxes have contacted the former Manchester United manager as the club searches for a replacement for Enzo Maresca.

Solskjaer is on the verge of securing his first managerial position since his departure from Manchester United.

The 51-year-old tactician is said to have expressed his eagerness to face the challenge of maintaining the Championship victors in the Premier Division.

Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha highly regards the former Manchester United star, who narrowly missed out on the role last summer, losing to Enzo Maresca.

Despite receiving various managerial offers, both domestically and internationally, Solskjaer declined them after United dismissed him in November 2021.

Recall that Solskjaer initially assumed the role of caretaker manager at Old Trafford in December 2018, eventually becoming United’s permanent manager in March after achieving 14 victories in his first 19 matches.

In Solskjaer’s first full season under his guidance, United finished third, reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup and Europa League.

The subsequent season saw the Reds secure a second-place finish behind Manchester City, marking United’s first consecutive top-four finishes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

Additionally, they lost 11-10 on penalties to Unai Emery’s Villarreal in the Europa League final.

Despite being rewarded with a three-year extension to his contract, Solskjaer was axed in November in his third and final season, with United seventh in the Prem.

Before Jesse Marsch was appointed last month, he was linked with the Canada head coach’s role.

But the 51-year-old is now itching to return to club management after being narrowly pipped by former Rangers boss Giovanni Van Bronckhorst for the Besiktas job earlier this week.

Leicester have turned their attention to Solskjaer after another contender, Maurizio Sarri, made it clear he wasn’t interested in the job.
