Real Madrid Offered Opportunity To Sign Manchester City Defender

Manchester City has reportedly offered center-back Manuel Akanji to Real Madrid as part of their plans to rebuild the squad this summer.

The Premier League side has had a disappointing season, currently sitting fifth in the league, a staggering 22 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Their struggles were further compounded by an early exit from the Champions League, where they were eliminated at the playoff stage by Madrid.

Manager Pep Guardiola has publicly warned a number of his aging players that they will be sold this summer as part of a huge squad overhaul that has already begun.

In the January transfer window, Manchester City acquired center-backs Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis for a combined fee of £63 million.

Additionally, midfielder Nico Gonzalez and forward Omar Marmoush were brought in for £50 million and £59 million, respectively.

With Akanji entering the final two years of his contract, he is likely to be among those available for sale, and MARCA states he has been offered to Real Madrid.

Intermediaries representing Manchester City are actively seeking new clubs for several players. Along with Manuel Akanji, potential departures include Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson, Jack Grealish, Mateo Kovacic, and Nathan Ake.

It is said that Madrid was surprised to be given the chance to sign Akanji, but as he approaches his 30th birthday, the Switzerland international is not believed to be seen as a viable transfer target.

Madrid wants younger players who can play integral roles in the squad for the next decade and is not interested in older players like Akanji, whose fitness history only adds to the concerns about his signing.

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is considered a key summer target for Real Madrid, and there is strong confidence at the Santiago Bernabéu that a deal for the Englishman is nearly finalized.
