Rennes Agrees Deal To Sign Mika Faye From Barcelona
Barcelona is in the process of finalizing several player departures. Ilkay Gundogan is set to rejoin Manchester City shortly, while Vitor Roque is expected to sign a loan deal with Real Betis that could last up to two years.
Additionally, Mikayil Faye is also preparing to leave the club after spending just over a year at Camp Nou.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Rennes has agreed on a deal with Barcelona for the signing of Faye. A €12m fixed fee will be received by the Catalans, who will also retain a sell-on clause.
Importantly, they will have the chance to re-sign the 20-year-old defender if needed as there is a buy-back option valued at approximately €35 million included in the deal.
And with the Catalans needing some departures, it became clear that the 20-year-old youngster would be on his way out.
There were several other clubs interested in signing the center-back, but he has opted to move to Rennes, who made an official bid for him last week and have now reached an agreement.
According to Romano, the young player is scheduled to travel to France tomorrow, on Friday, to undergo his medical and finalize the necessary paperwork.
A key detail in the operation is that Barcelona has been successful in inserting a buyback option for Faye something that the club had been pushing for as they believe in his potential.
Faye was signed for a low fee last summer, so it’s a healthy profit that Barcelona will make on a player that was not in Hansi Flick’s plans for this season. There’s no doubt that they will also be keeping an eye on his progress in Ligue 1.
Additionally, Barcelona has secured a 25% sell-on clause for Faye, who joined the club just last summer for a fee of €1.5 million.
