Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus will depart the club after 12 years after the season. However, coach Edin Terzic said on Saturday that reaching the Champions League final at Wembley would bring his time at the Ruhr Valley club to a full-circle ending.

Reus contributed a goal and two assists in Dortmund’s 5-1 victory against Augsburg on Saturday. The team is now preparing to play against Paris St Germain in the return leg in France on Tuesday, following their 1-0 first-leg triumph in Germany earlier this week.

Having last won the Champions League in 1997, the German team is aiming to reach their first final in the competition since 2013, when they were defeated by Bayern Munich at Wembley Stadium.

Terzic mentioned that a return to Wembley Stadium for this year’s final would provide a fitting finale to Reus’ career at Dortmund.

“Yes, a cycle would close,” Terzic said. “It was in his first season at Dortmund that he played at Wembley and it would be perfect to return there,” Terzic told a press conference. He is a living legend. He has put all other stories in the shadow today.”

“What I wish is that the Marco Reus festival lasts for another month and we experience a few more games together,” Terzic said.

Having joined from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012 and previously spending a decade at Borussia Dortmund as a youth player, the German has scored 169 goals in 425 matches for Dortmund and provided 130 assists.

Reus won two German Cups but fell short of winning any other major titles, narrowly missing out on his first-ever Bundesliga trophy last season on the final matchday.

With two games left in the Bundesliga season, Dortmund currently sits in fifth place. Before their victory over PSG, they were in danger of not qualifying for Champions League football next season. However, their win secured the fifth spot for Germany in the upcoming competition.
