Roma Is Close To Signing Artem Dovbyk From Girona
Girona forward, Artem Dovbyk, has been the subject of interest from several sides this summer, but it looks as if Roma are set to be his final destination.
Atletico Madrid believed last week that he was headed to the Metropolitan.
However, after Dovbyk’s agent said publicly that they did not see a ‘serious project’ at Atletico for the Pichichi last season, Marca has reported that Los Rojiblancos will not be drawn into ‘blackmail’ by Oleksander Lundovsky.
Multiple outlets have reported that his demand for a commission was the primary barrier to finalizing the deal. In response, Dovbyk addressed a post on Tribuna’s Instagram, stating that these claims are “lies” and suggested that the truth will come to light next week
Despite the Dovbyk deal with Atletico falling through, Fabrizio Romano has reported that personal terms have already been agreed upon with Roma.
Discussions between the Giallorossi and Girona are set to start next week, with Roma preparing to make an initial offer of over €30 million.
Matteo Moretto has reported that their offer could be 32 million plus additional variables. He also mentioned that West Ham is pursuing the Ukrainian forward as well and has resumed talks with Lundovsky.
However, for the time being, Dovbyk is prioritizing a move to Roma, while the Atletico deal is regarded as irreparable.
Atletico had initially reached an agreement with Girona for a €35 million deal that included variables. Regardless of who is at fault, if Dovbyk ends up joining the Italian side, Atletico will find themselves without an established number nine just three weeks before the season begins
Following the exits of Memphis Depay and Alvaro Morata, 20-year-old Samu Omorodion and Angel Correa are the most natural options there as things stand, although Atletico B forward Carlos Martin is also an outside option.
