Salah’s Future Takes New Twist As Liverpool Prepare For Summer

‎Liverpool’s preparations for the upcoming summer transfer window continue to be overshadowed by uncertainty surrounding their biggest star, Mohamed Salah.

‎For months, the forward has been linked with a blockbuster move away from Liverpool, fuelled largely by persistent interest from Saudi Arabia.

‎However, a new update suggests Salah’s mindset may be more grounded than the growing speculation has indicated.

Salah’s Openness to Staying at Liverpool

‎Football Insider reports that Salah is perfectly content to remain at Anfield and see out his contract if no suitable move arises this summer.

‎This perspective has been reinforced by Stefan Borson, a former Manchester City financial adviser, who noted that Salah would “very happily” stay on Merseyside earning “very big money” if an exit does not materialise.

The Egyptian signed his current deal in April 2025, tying him to the club until June 2027, and despite moments of public tension last year, there has been no significant push from his side to engineer a departure.

Persistent Interest from the Saudi Pro League

‎The Saudi Pro League has not cooled its interest. Since Salah’s friction with manager Arne Slot before the Africa Cup of Nations, speculation has repeatedly linked him with a high-profile switch to the Middle East.

‎According to Borson, Saudi Arabia remains the only realistic destination, given the size of Salah’s wages and his massive commercial impact. Clubs such as Al Ittihad and Al Hilal are believed to be the strongest admirers, viewing him as a marquee figure capable of elevating the league’s global stature at age 33.

The Wage Challenge Limiting His Options

‎The primary factor restricting Salah’s transfer possibilities is his salary. He is understood to earn around £400,000 per week at Liverpool, making him the joint-highest paid player at the club alongside Virgil van Dijk.

‎Borson has emphasised that very few European clubs could realistically match such a package without financial assistance from Liverpool.

‎The Premier League giants are highly unlikely to subsidise his wages, effectively ruling out most of Europe’s top destinations and leaving Saudi Arabia as the lone feasible pathway.

What the Future Likely Holds

‎Considering the financial landscape and the player’s own lack of urgency to push for a transfer, the most probable scenario is Salah remaining at Liverpool until the end of his contract in 2027.

‎A move to Saudi Arabia at that point, likely on a free transfer or with minimal fee, would position him to negotiate an even more lucrative deal without the constraints of a transfer price.
