Saudi Pro League Spending Spree Resumes January – Gerrard
Steven Gerrard, the manager of Al-Ettifaq, has suggested that his team will once more target European clubs for talent in the January transfer window. The significant spending by Saudi Pro League clubs during the recent summer transfer window, recruiting top European football talents with substantial contracts, has been a major point of discussion.
Gerrard, the former Liverpool legend and Aston Villa manager who took over as Al-Ettifaq’s coach in the summer, has committed to strengthening his squad and has disclosed his intentions to once again explore the European market.
Speaking to reporters, Gerard said: “To assure our fans, we are going to scour Europe for more options. But we’ll also, more importantly, need to scour locally to improve this squad to be more competitive.”
Following his arrival at the club, Steven Gerrard made some noteworthy signings, including former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who won the Champions League and Premier League, and Everton’s Demarai Gray.
Despite these additions, Al-Ettifaq has had a challenging start to the season and currently sits in seventh place in the league with 21 points from 12 matches. The team from Dammam will play their next match on Saturday against Al-Feiha in the Saudi Pro League.
