Serie A Roundup: Inter Milan Go Top As AC Milan Stumbles And Napoli’s Woes Deepen
From AC Milan’s missed opportunity at Parma to Inter Milan’s climb to the summit, and from Christian Pulisic’s promising return to Napoli’s struggles without Kevin De Bruyne.
Here’s a complete breakdown of all the action across Italy.
Milan Let Victory Slip Despite Bright Start
AC Milan were left ruing a squandered 2-0 lead as they were held to a 2-2 draw by relegation-threatened Parma on Saturday.
A win would have taken the Rossoneri top of the Serie A table, but lapses in concentration cost Stefano Pioli’s men dearly.
The visitors started brilliantly. Christopher Nkunku teed up Alexis Saelemaekers, who cut inside and buried a precise shot into the bottom corner after just 12 minutes.
Saelemaekers then won a penalty midway through the first half after being fouled by Iliman Ndiaye near the byline. Rafael Leão converted with his trademark calmness to double Milan’s advantage.
But the momentum shifted just before halftime. Adrián Bernabé produced a stunning curling effort into the far top corner to give Parma hope, and Enrico Delprato’s powerful header in the 62nd minute completed the comeback.
Christian Pulisic made his long-awaited return from a hamstring injury in the 70th minute and almost scored a late winner. The U.S. international raced onto Leão’s clever backheel flick but fired narrowly wide of the far post.
The draw saw Milan move level on points with defending champions Napoli but miss the chance to reclaim first place.
For Parma, the result was priceless they moved two points clear of the relegation zone.
Goalkeepers Shine as Juventus Held in Turin Derby
Juventus endured another frustrating evening as they were held to a goalless draw by city rivals Torino. The Derby della Mole produced few clear chances, but both goalkeepers were exceptional.
Torino’s Alberto Paleari denied Weston McKennie’s close-range header with a stunning reflex save, while Juventus keeper Michele Di Gregorio matched him with an equally impressive one-handed stop from Ché Adams earlier in the game.
The stalemate leaves Juventus fifth in the standings, three points behind the top two, and raises further questions about their creativity in attack under Luciano Spalletti.
Napoli’s Goal Drought Continues
Antonio Conte’s Napoli continue to look lost without injured playmaker Kevin De Bruyne. The defending champions slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Bologna their third straight match without scoring.
The match began poorly for Bologna when first-choice goalkeeper Łukasz Skorupski limped off early, forcing 17-year-old Massimo Pessina into his Serie A debut.
But instead of being overwhelmed, Bologna’s young keeper remained largely untested, as Napoli struggled to create meaningful chances.
Bologna struck first in the 50th minute, when substitute Nicolò Cambiaghi combined beautifully with Thijs Dallinga, who slotted home at the near post.
Colombia defender Jhon Lucumí then sealed the win with a well-placed header his first goal in Serie A.
The result saw Bologna climb to fifth, just three points behind leaders Roma, while Napoli slipped to fourth after losing top spot.
Roma Rise to the Top
Roma took full advantage of Napoli and Milan’s stumbles to move top of Serie A after a 2-0 home win over Udinese.
Captain Lorenzo Pellegrini opened the scoring from the penalty spot late in the first half after Hassane Kamara handled inside the box. Zeki Çelik then doubled Roma’s lead in the 61st minute, finishing off a smart one-two with Gianluca Mancini.
It was a memorable moment for the Turkish defender, who scored his first-ever Serie A goal after three seasons with the club.
Inter Milan Hit the Summit with a Win Over Lazio
Inter Milan rounded off the weekend in style, climbing to the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Lazio at San Siro.
Captain Lautaro Martínez continued his sensational form, opening the scoring inside three minutes with a precise finish using the outside of his boot. The Nerazzurri doubled their advantage after the break when Federico Dimarco’s low cross found Ange-Yoan Bonny for a simple tap-in.
Although Piotr Zielinski thought he had added a third, the goal was ruled out for handball in the buildup.
Lazio threatened late on, with Mario Gila’s header hitting the crossbar, but Yann Sommer’s quick reaction preserved Inter’s clean sheet.
The victory lifted Inter to 24 points, level with Roma but ahead on goal difference, reaffirming their title credentials.
