Shakira, the Colombian pop sensation, has officially been announced as the performer for the 2024 Copa America final.
The renowned singer will take the stage during the halftime show of the highly anticipated final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Sunday, July 14th.
“Shakira is an extraordinary South American star who has dazzled the entire world,” said Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL, in a statement on Wednesday.
“We are sure that her performance at the Copa América USA 2024 will enhance the message of healthy passion and unity through sport.”
Shakira has previously showcased her talent at significant international gatherings like the Super Bowl and three World Cups.
The final of the 2024 Copa America will feature the victors of Tuesday night’s semifinal match – Argentina versus Canada; as well as the other semifinal showdown on Wednesday between Uruguay and Colombia.
A crowd of at least 54,000 individuals is anticipated to be present at the final match.
Argentina Cruises To 2024 Copa America Final
Sportxparte reports that Argentina secured their place in the Copa América final as they defeated Canada 2-0 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The victory marked a significant achievement for La Albiceleste, who secured their place at the Copa América final as the defending champions for the first time in 31 years.
The match started with Argentina showing their dominance early on, with Julian Alvarez scoring the opening goal with a fantastic low drive after a pass from Rodrigo de Paul.
This goal exposed Canada’s defence, which had been solid in the tournament until then, having not conceded an opening-half goal in their previous 10 competitive fixtures.
As the first half progressed, Angel Di Maria came close to doubling Argentina’s lead, but Canada fought back and almost equalized through Jonathan David, who forced a crucial save from Emiliano Martinez just before halftime.
The second half just six minutes into the second half, the Canucks couldn’t help but fall behind by the same margin, as Lionel Messi claimed the final touch, redirecting Enzo Fernandez’s shot after a one-touch play initiated by the little magician went haywire inside the box.
The victory ensures that Argentina will face either Uruguay or Colombia in the final, maintaining their unbeaten record in normal times of major tournaments on US soil since the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
