Soccer Player Captured Allegedly Making Nazi Salute At Pro-Israel Demonstration
Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel, a former player in the US National Women’s League, was captured on video apparently making a Nazi salute during a confrontation with pro-Israel demonstrators in Los Angeles.
The incident occurred during a rally in Beverly Hills, although the preceding circumstances leading up to the video are unclear.
She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by another professional soccer player, Samim Haydari, who was last associated with United City FC in 2022.
Ferrer Van Ginkel, a 25-year-old Brazilian, had previously played for Angel City Football Club, but the club distanced themselves from her actions in a statement posted on social media.
“Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel does not play for Angel City Football Club, nor has she been affiliated with the club since November 2022, and we condemn her recent actions and statements,” the statement declared.
Both players later issued a video apology on social media after the incident garnered widespread attention.
“I know we have approached the situation with hate and made it worse with our actions,” Haydari said in the video, with Van Ginkel not speaking.
“We acted childish. All we can do is become better and learn a lesson from this. We cannot change the past.”
Van Ginkel is currently not affiliated with any club. She had a one-season stint with Angel City and previously played for Spanish club Espanyol and the Mexican top-flight side Tigres.
