Tottenham Appoints Thomas Frank To Replace Ange Postecoglou As Head Coach
Tottenham has announced the appointment of former Brentford manager, Thomas Frank as their new head coach, the club confirmed on Thursday.
The Danish coach has agreed to a deal until 2028 and will take over from Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed last Friday.
Spurs paid a £10 million fee to release him from his Brentford contract, which had another two years left to run.
Frank took charge of Brentford in October 2018 and led them to promotion to the Premier League through the Championship playoffs in 2021.
He played a key role in establishing the Bees as consistent top-flight competitors over four seasons, despite operating with a relatively modest budget.
Tottenham said, “In Thomas, we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game. He has a proven track record in player and squad development and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead.”
Frank will be joined at Tottenham by Brentford colleagues Justin Cochrane, assistant coach; Chris Haslam, head of performance and assistant coach; and analyst Joe Newton.
Additionally, Andreas Georgson will join as an assistant coach from Manchester United.
Brentford concluded their most recent campaign in 10th place, while Tottenham finished much lower in 17th.
Frank takes over a side that endured its worst-ever Premier League campaign last season as Tottenham finished 17th after suffering 22 defeats to record just 38 points.
But despite their domestic woes, Spurs will be competing in next season’s Champions League after Europa League glory, meaning Frank will manage in Europe for the first time in his career.
Spurs’ disappointing domestic season prompted chairman Daniel Levy to dismiss Postecoglou, despite achieving success in the Europa League.
Postecoglou guided Tottenham to their first trophy in 17 years with victory in the Bilbao final, but was surprisingly sacked just 16 days afterward.
