Transfer: Ancelotti Breaks Silence On Why Real Madrid Didn’t Sign Osimhen
Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, has disclosed the rationale for the team’s choice not to bring Victor Osimhen on board last summer.
Sportxparte reports that the Nigerian player, Osimhen caught the attention of several elite European teams last summer after an outstanding performance for Napoli.
The forward netted 26 goals in 32 matches, playing a crucial role in Partenopei’s victory in the Scudetto.
Real Madrid said goodbye to their iconic forward, Karim Benzema, who moved to the Saudi club, Al Ittihad.
Ancelotti mentioned that the addition of Jude Bellingham has made up for Benzema’s move.
The Italian told Radio Serie A: “No (we didn’t sign Osimhen) because I think the club thought that Benzema’s absence could be remedied by purchasing (Jude) Bellingham.”
We Are Signing Player 10 Times Better Than Greenwood – Lazio To Man United
Meanwhile, Claudio Lotito, the President of Lazio, has acknowledged that his team did not secure a loan deal for Mason Greenwood from Manchester United the previous year.
However, Lotito mentioned that Lazio was in talks to sign a forward “tenfold more talented than Mason Greenwood”.
Sportxparte understands that Greenwood’s deal was not finalized in the summer of 2023 due to delays in the necessary paperwork.
Greenwood eventually moved to Getafe on a loan and was recognized as the La Liga’s player of the Season.
Manchester United has chosen to sell Greenwood this season and has set a selling price of £40 million for him.
Lazio proposed a deal of £16.9 million plus a 50% sell-on clause, but Manchester United declined the offer.
“Last year we were 20 minutes late due to a mismatch between the markets in Italy and England and so he fell through.
“I had signed Greenwood last year but you didn’t even know who he was.
“He fell through due to a mismatch of an hour between the two markets and the facts proved me right because he then did well.
“But it’s not just Greenwood, there are also other players that you don’t even know. If I told you a name, which I won’t tell you because I want to keep you curious, that is worth 10 times more than Greenwood,” Lotito said in a recent interview.
