Vincent Kompany Moves To Sign Liverpool Top Defender
Vincent Kompany is reportedly interested in bringing a new defender to Bayern Munich this season and has set his sights on Joe Gomez from Liverpool.
Reports are that Kompany, who recently took charge at Bayern Munich, is impressed by Gomez’s ability to play in multiple positions in defense.
Sportxparte reports that Gomez, 27, had a standout season with Liverpool, showcasing his skills as a centre-back, full-back, and even in a defensive midfield role, appearing in 51 matches.
Having regained his spot in the England national team under Gareth Southgate, Gomez is currently in Germany preparing for the Euro 2024 opener against Serbia on Sunday.
Liverpool is determined to keep Gomez and has no intention of letting go of one of their key players.
The Reds signed Gomez to a five-year contract in 2022 under Jurgen Klopp, securing his future at Anfield until 2027, and view him as a crucial player under new manager Arne Slot.
At the same time, Bayern Munich is also considering signing Chelsea’s England defender Levi Colwill, but, similar to Liverpool, the Blues are not interested in parting with him.
Colwill, 21, is bound to Stamford Bridge until 2029 and although he missed the Euro 2024 tournament with the German national team, he is eager to join Enzo Maresca’s new team.
Bayern is exploring various options and is also looking into signing Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has received a boost following Luis Diaz’s choice to reject Barcelona’s offers and remain at Anfield.
Diaz, 27, was in high demand by Barcelona, with his father expressing it as a dream for the Colombian forward to play for the Spanish club.
Yet, Diaz, who is gearing up for the Copa America in the US, is adamant that he is completely content at Liverpool.
“I’m very happy there at Liverpool,” Diaz had said during an interview.
He added: “It’s a great team and club. I’ve always wanted to play there, so I’m very happy and relaxed.
“I’m not thinking about anything else. I’m thinking about the Colombia national team, which is where we are.”
