AFCON Semi-Final: CAF Names Egyptian Referees For Nigeria Vs South Africa Match
The 2023 AFCON semi-final clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa will be officiated by Egyptian referee, Amin Mohamed Omar, as confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The match is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, at the Stade de Bouaké.
Omar’s appointment comes after successfully handling the opening game of the 2023 AFCON between Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau on January 13. His expertise and fitness make him well-suited for this highly anticipated encounter.
Assisting Omar will be his fellow countrymen, Mahmoud Kamel Abouelregal and Ahmed Hossam Ibrahim, who will serve as Assistant Referee 1 and Assistant Referee 2 respectively.
The senior teams of South Africa and Nigeria have faced each other on 14 occasions. Out of these matches, Bafana Bafana emerged victorious in two, while the Super Eagles claimed victory in seven. The remaining encounters resulted in draws.
Their most recent encounter in the AFCON took place in 2019 in Cairo, Egypt. Nigeria emerged triumphant with a 2-1 victory in the quarter-finals. As a result, Bafana Bafana will be eager to seek revenge in their upcoming match on Wednesday.
