Alexander Isak’s Future Uncertain: Contract, Market Interest, And Newcastle’s Dilemma
Alexander Isak’s future remains uncertain over the coming weeks, with little indication of progress and significant behind-the-scenes tension.
The Newcastle United forward was among Liverpool’s initial targets this summer, but the Premier League champions ultimately chose Hugo Ekitike instead.
Isak had been on their radar and there was contact over a £120million deal. Yet Newcastle’s stance on keeping their star forward saw talks fizzle out.
Despite being open-minded about a potential move, Isak has never pushed aggressively for an exit. Yet he is now caught in a complicated situation. No transfer path has opened up and Newcastle have so far failed to meet his contract expectations.
The core issue lies in a substantial discrepancy between Newcastle’s valuation of Isak and the amount they are willing to pay him. They persist in suggesting that he is worth between £125 million and £150 million in today’s market.
Isak’s current contract valuation
However, the Sweden international currently earns just over £100,000 a week.
His camp, aware of his value and the forward’s importance to the club, is understood to be pushing for wages of up to £300,000 a week to sign a new deal to stay on Tyneside.
Sources have revealed that Newcastle, for their part, are not willing to go beyond £200,000 a week at this stage.
Isak’s contract runs until 2028, and Newcastle is under no pressure to sell him. Nevertheless, they are beginning to explore options for attacking reinforcements this transfer window.
Ekitike and Joao Pedro had been on their radar before both players moved to Liverpool and Chelsea, respectively.
Newcastle search for Isak partner
A £25million bid for Yoane Wissa has already been rejected by Brentford, who are reluctant to part with another key forward after selling Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United. The club had made a promise to new manager Keith Andrews that they would not lose both.
Newcastle are plotting another offer for Wissa but are also keeping tabs on RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda as a possible alternative.
There has been speculation about Saudi interest in Isak. While the player appears to be open to the possibility, Newcastle might prefer a move outside the Premier League rather than selling to a domestic rival.
However, their preferred outcome is still to retain him for the upcoming season.
At present, Isak finds himself in a state of limbo there are no significant offers, no new contract agreement, and a club that recognizes his talent as elite but pays him accordingly below that level. Something has to give soon.
