Arsenal’s Gabriel Faces Crucial Scans Amid Fears Of Season-Ending Injury
Arsenal is facing a nervous wait to determine the severity of Gabriel Magalhaes’ hamstring injury, with initial concerns indicating he could be out for a significant amount of time.
The center-back experienced the injury in the early stages of Arsenal’s win over Fulham on Tuesday. He pulled up while chasing Adama Traore during the match.
Gabriel received treatment on the pitch from the Gunners’ medical staff, but it was quickly established that the Brazilian could not continue, and he soon limped from the pitch.
The suspected hamstring injury is a major setback for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, arriving just before their crucial Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid next week.
Following the match, Arteta announced that Gabriel, as well as Ben White and Jurrien Timber, who both picked up injuries before and during the game, will be assessed in the coming days.
The situation adds to the pressure as Arsenal prepares for this pivotal clash.
Dutch full-back Jurrien Timber also needed to be substituted in the second half after feeling a problem with his knee.
Arteta told reporters after the game that both players would be assessed on Wednesday to see the extent of their injuries.
”Gabby felt something in his hamstring, we don’t know how big that is,” Arteta said.
”Jurrien was struggling very early in the game; he managed to continue, but at some point, he couldn’t.”
Gunners legend Ian Wright, who was watching the game for Premier League Productions, fears Gabriel will miss both legs of the quarter-final and any potential Champions League semi-final.
”It is very concerning because, for me, the way he’s pulled up, that’s not two weeks,” he said.
”That’s like six weeks at least. He could be out for the season, depending on what happens with Arsenal.
”But that’s a massive blow for us; with him and without him, there’s a massive difference. He is vital to what Arsenal are doing.”
Tim Sherwood, the former Tottenham player and then manager, predicted a similar timeline while reporting on the game live for Sky Sports.
”Gabriel is holding his hamstring and needs to go down… this does not look good,” he said on Sky Sports News.
”This is really bad news for Arsenal if it is bad, it could be his season over, and they have Real Madrid coming up. He will not be the first player to do his hamstring trying to chase Traore!”
