Asisat Oshoala Wins Supercopa Femenina After Barcelona’s Merciless Victory Against Levante

Super Falcons star striker, Asisat Oshoala, won the Supercopa Femenina in Spain during the weekend.

Sportxparte reports that the Nigerian striker, who plays for FC Barcelona Femení, was a key part of her team’s 7-0 victory over Levante in the final held at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque in Leganés on  Saturday, January 20, 2024.

Oshoala came on as a substitute in the 64th minute and although she didn’t add to the scoreline, her presence on the pitch helped solidify Barcelona’s dominance.

This win marks Oshoala’s 12th club honour since joining Barcelona in 2019, further solidifying her place as one of the most successful African footballers in history.

Barcelona dominated the match from start to finish, with Salma Paralluelo and Caroline Graham Hansen each scoring two goals, while Ona Batlle, Aitana Bonmatí, and Alexia Putellas also found the net.

Sportxparte understands that this is Barcelona’s third Supercopa Femenina title in a row. Oshoala is the first African player to win the Supercopa Femenina.

In addition to numerous club achievements, Oshoala has also received several individual awards since joining Barcelona. During her time in Spain, the FC Robo graduate secured three out of her six African Women’s Footballer of the Year titles.

Furthermore, in 2022, she became the top scorer in the Primera División, making her the first Nigerian to achieve this feat. Just a few months prior, she was honoured as the IFFHS Women’s CAF Best Player of the Year.

Nevertheless, it is worth noting that Oshoala’s current contract with Barcelona will expire in June 2024.
