Austria Coach Ralf Rangnick Confirms Contact With Bayern Munich
Austria coach Ralf Rangnick mentioned on Wednesday that Bayern Munich had reached out to him as they look for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, who is leaving the club.
However, Rangnick stated that he is currently not engaging with any potential interest from Bayern as his main priority is the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, set to begin in June.
“There has been contact from the side of Bayern Munich and I have informed the Austrian Football Association,” Rangnick told Austrian website 90 Minuten. We have a very trusting relationship, my focus is on the Austrian national team. We are focusing completely on the European championships.” “I feel very well here. At the moment there is no reason to intensively deal with this,” he added.
Despite winning the previous 11 league titles, Bayern Munich failed to secure this season’s Bundesliga trophy, with Bayer Leverkusen claiming their first-ever league crown five matches before the season’s conclusion.
Thomas Tuchel, who assumed the Bayern coaching role just over a year ago, is departing a year ahead of schedule following a disappointing domestic campaign that included an early exit from the German Cup at the hands of third-tier Saarbruecken.
Nevertheless, Bayern still have a chance at one title as they have advanced to the Champions League semi-finals, where they are set to face Real Madrid next week.
At 65 years old, Ralf Rangnick, who has previously coached teams such as Manchester United and RB Leipzig, stated that he would only consider any potential offer from Bayern Munich if and when the club officially approaches him.
“If Bayern says ‘we want you’. And then I would also have to ask myself ‘Do I want this?’. If I want to do something else I will first discuss it with the Austrian FA,” he said.
Austria is scheduled to play against France in their first Euro 2024 Group D match on June 17, and they will also face Poland and the Netherlands in the group stage.
